Reversed Temps & CPU not identified

Post by Amunhotep4th »

I have a brand new computer running Windows 7, 64 bit. I installed Core Temp 0.99.8, 64 bit and noticed first that it was not showing my processor, which is an Intel i7 2600 and the Platform is listed as: LGA 1155 (Socket H2). The computer is an HP Pavilion Elite h8-1040 (QN562AA#ABA). The computer has been in my possession for 3 days. I am writing this from another computer, since the new computer is a stand alone machine and will only be doing digital work and music.

Secondly I noticed that the temperatures reported (low and high) were reversed. The current temperatures shown seem to be about normal. I also use All CPU Meter V3.7 by Addgadget.com.

Is this an item that can be fixed or should I ignore it and proceed normally ?

I recommend you try to install version 1.0 and see if solves the problem.

Thanks "Coolest" - you have made a near 70 year old man very happy :-) I installed v 1.0 and the processor was identified as Intel Core i7 2600K (Sandy Bridge) and the high and low temperatures were correctly identified !

Thanks for the assist :-)

Reversed Temps & CPU not identified

Great! Just something I want to mention. This version has a small bug when sometimes temperature will read as maximum. You can ignore it. It will be fixed in the next release.

Thanks for the info on the glitch in V 1.0. I also put V 1.0 on my internet computer which is also an i7, but an older 870. Be well and thanks :-)

Hi. I just found out about Core Temp today, and I d/l'd the most recent version from your site (1.0 RC3) This is relatively minor, but Core Temp is reporting my CPU as: Mobile Intel Core i7 2800QM (Sandy Bridge), and Win 7 System Information is reporting it as: Mobile Intel Core i7 2670QM. To be honest, the laptop was customized at the shop.Lenovo site (model V570), and the exact details of the CPU were somewhat sparse, so I'm honestly not sure which CPU I have. Would it be fair to assume that the Win 7 system info is accurate? And if so, why is Core Temp identifying a different CPU? Thanks. (Everything else seems to be working fine. Resource Monitor is displaying 8 CPUs (0-7), and there seem to be no other inaccuracies.)

Can you please post a Core Temp register dump? (Tools menu)
I'll make sure that it is fixed in the next release.

Here ya go. Thanks.

Hmmmmm...interesting...reading through the dump, I saw the following:

Processor model: Mobile Intel Core i7 2800QM (Sandy Bridge)
Processor name string: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz

So Core Temp does have the i7-2670QM info, but doesn't recognize it as the model number, only the "Processor name string".

The processor name string is programmed in by Intel at the factory, that's why it's read correctly by Core Temp.
This is indeed a small bug in the program and it will be corrected in the next release, thanks for the feedback :)
