Gadget Version of CT (2.6) Disappears

Post by Soniclight »

Attached is current non-gadget CT v. 0.99.8 screen-shot for sys specs. I use dual monitors, 2x 19" LCD.
I place the CT gadget usually at far right of left screen.

Situation

I can restore it through the Window 7 (64-bit Home Premium) "Restore desktop gadgets installed on Windows" but so far, at some point, it won't load with on system boot. The gadget next to it will be there, but the space for where I had placed CT is just empty; but it's not a "ghost" for I can move the other gadget over it (calendar one). The settings are also all gone, i.e. colors chosen, in short, back to default.

A) What's causing this, what can be done to prevent it?

B) Any way to save the Gadget settings in some format so that one can just copy/paste it back in to its folder? If so what file, where?

When I do video rendering with Sony Vegas Pro or work with other CPU intensive progs, having CT's real-time GUI going is more than a cool option, it's necessary. My alternate for real time GUI CPU monitoring is a very much older 32-bit freeware prog (CoolBeans Sys Info)-- but it doesn't have temps and reads only 2 cores max -- and so I definitely prefer to be able to rely on CT's Gadget version.

Thank you for your input towards a solution on this.

Sometimes 'Sidebar.exe' may crash or a certain gadget may crash.
I don't get how it disappears. Does it not appear anymore after a reboot? I have never had nor heard of such an issue.
As for your configuration question, there's no way to store the settings in an external file. gadget settings file has all the settings stored in it, you could copy them out of it, and paste everything back if this happens again.
Also, how often does this problem occur?

Thanks for reply.
I'm having some ongoing and sporadic ISP or Net connection problems so I may not be able to get back here as soon as I'd like, so I might as well write this while I can.

How often does it occur?

On regular basis. More or less after maybe a week or so, poof, gone. Just happened again. It showed up once earlier today/last night degrading to settings I hadn't set (i.e. some of the defaults), then just disappeared by the next boot-up. In short, after a while, it just doesn't show up at all, no matter how many times I boot up. So I have to re-install, etc. Yet as stated earlier, the other only gadget I have (simple Calendar/date, not even a clock thing) is fine - my guess is is far less complex for it has no data to read/write unlike CoreTemp.

Something is definitely messing with CoreTemp or its not jiving with something else and I could go look at Events but not sure that would help.

And as I said, my DSL connection right now is pretty iffy, so gotta go. I'm not needing CoreTemp that critically right now for I'm not rendering videos, etc. So not a do-or-die. I'd just like to fix this eventually.

Thanks.
