Multiple bugs in CT 0.99.8

Post by breeze »

Hi, (1st time poster)

I was using CT 0.99.5 and it worked great and was a big help when upgrading and checking temps.
Now I just updated to CT 0.99.8 and with in 15 minutes I found multiple problems with the updated version.

1. My core temps at max load using Prime95 on CT 0.99.5 were 147 deg F, which is OK. But now on CT 0.99.8 they max out at 124 deg F. That's a pretty big difference and would put my critical temps way higher (according to CT 0.99.5). Which ones are correct CT 0.99.5 or CT 0.99.8? Am I in for a meltdown and won't know it?

2. The high and low temps in the display are backwards, which is confusing to look at.

3. Hot color showing in the display when changing from Celsius to Fahrenheit, in Celsius it shows black but in Fahrenheit it changes to orange (chosen color for hot), even when system and CPU are at idle around 82 deg F. Doesn't seem to be a setting for when "hot" temp is hit, only for critical temp in overheat protection.

4. Font settings don't stay for task bar display temp numbers, they keep changing back to default font but colors stay at selected colors.

5. Overheat protection might flash once in CT 0.99.8 but in CT 0.99.5 it kept flashing until it got my attention and was addressed, which is a much better setup by warning that you need to do something now!

There may be other issues but these are the ones I came across in just 15 minutes after "updating."

I have an AMD 64 X2 5800+ 3.0 GHz Brisbane in a Dell E521 running Windows XP SP3.

Everything was OK with CT 0.99.5 but now I'm not so sure, at least CT 0.99.5 pretty much matched the other temp monitoring programs I tried and would do what was asked of it correctly but CT 0.99.8 update is kinda screwed up.
Where can I get a download for Core Temp 0.99.5 to go back to until you get 0.99.8 squared away? I deleted 0.99.5 when I updated. Is there a new "fixed updated" version coming anytime in the near future?

Hey,
Here's an quick update.
Just checked my temps and Core #0 hit a new low temp of 213 Deg. F. My pute should be on fire by now.
They really need to get this new version straightened out!
Until they do I'm going to use something else this is just too unreliable.

First of all I would like to apologize for not replying sooner.

Have you been able to resolve the issues, or did you give up?
Will you be willing to give it another go, and maybe work with me a little bit to see if this problem can be found and fixed for the next release?

I would still like to address a few of your points:

1. Brisbane CPU's are supposed to have a 21c offset added to their direct temperature readings. I'm not sure, maybe Core Temp isn't detecting it right and not applying the required offset anymore.
If you could provide a register dump from the Tools menu, I will be able to check and fix this issue.

2. That is a bug, you need to go to Options --> Settings --> Advanced and uncheck the "Display distance to Tj.Max" option.

3. I would like to take another look at this, could you please make sure that you create the register dump exactly when it happens? That would help a lot.

4, 5. Both are bugs, and both have been fixed for the upcoming version.

Sorry to dig up an old thread...I'm anxious for the next version that will fix bug #4 (the font issue) mentioned above. Is there an expected release date?

Thanks.

Great news. If there's a private beta, I'd be very interested in helping out.

I don't know if this has already been figured out but I figured out a work around for the font issue that can be used until the next release...

Once you figure out what font and point size you want, exit Core Temp. Open up the CoreTemp.ini file in your favorite editor. Go down to the [System tray] section and locate the following two lines (they were the last two lines in this section on my system)...

SystrayFontName=Tahoma;
SystrayFontSize=8;

All I had to do was change the font name to the font name I wanted and change the size to the point size I wanted. I left the semi-colons in place. Save your changes. Subsequent launches of Core Temp will show the system tray icon in the font and point size you put in those two lines. It sticks after a reboot as well.

HTH

Hi,

Just wondering if you have an estimated release date for the new version? Looking forward to it.

Thanks.
