Coretemp VS Sandy Bridge: incorrect VID

Post by urnadm »

There're pictures included to explain the problem. I've ASUS P8P67 + i7 2600k @ 4.5v. Offset mode voltage and Additional Boost Voltage are used in BIOS. Coretemp sums them all.
Screen #1: system is idle (1600 MHz, 0.944v, CPU-Z is correct). Coretemp shows wrong VID - 1.446v.
Screen #2: LinPack 8-threads load. (4500 MHz, 1.328v, CPU-Z is correct). Coretemp shows wrong VID - 1.491v.

By the way, Coretemp shows real values if Manual voltage set in BIOS. in Manual mode motherboard doesn't change voltage when idle or load so VID is always stable.

Re: Coretemp VS Sandy Bridge: incorrect VID

This is not in my control.
Core Temp displays VID, not Core Voltage, it's fundamentally different.
Core Voltage, what CPU-z displays, is taken from an onboard sensor.
VID is a value reported by the processor, I can't do anything about it when the CPU is not reporting the correct values. There is also no way for me to detect with accuracy when the VID may be incorrect.
