Odd AMD 955 BE Temps

Post by Artson »

I'm using the latest Core Temp (0.99.8) for Win 7 64x with an AMD Phenom II 955 BE C3 and my idle temps jump from 30 degrees to 68 degrees. The 68 degrees is only shown for less than a second but it's noticeable by looking at the Windows 7 tray icon or the max temp and occasionally the current temp. It is usually 30 degrees idle and about 38-43 load. Also the temp always jumps to 68 degrees. It might also be important to note that a few weeks ago, it showed 201 degrees as the max temp after a couple hours of gaming. This 201 degrees was there for a week then mysteriously disappeared and was replaced with 68.

I have a coolermaster hyper 212 plus and a coolermaster HAF case so cooling is not the problem.

This sounds like "bugs" in the thermal sensor or maybe corrupted data being reported by the processor to Core Temp, especially the 200+C reading you saw.
Core Temp tries to ignore such readings as best it can, but some still slip through. I don't think that there is a reason to worry about it.
