CoreTemp 0.99.8 | Wrong temperature on Atom N270

Post by olpixel »

I'm not quite sure what this means technically, but i'm pretty sure that one of both tools, CoreTemp 0.99.8 or Speccy, shows some wrong temperature on my Intel Atom N270.

The processor is overclocked at 2,0ghz (1,6ghz originally), which causes more heat than it does on default clock. CoreTemp shows me around 20-23°C on idle (C1E disabled!), which is fairly not possible. Speccy is more realistic with around 35-40°C on idle.

I personally think CoreTemp shows some wrong temperature here.

Config:
HP mini 311-1100EG
Intel Atom N270 (OC at 2,0ghz)
Nvidia Ion
Windows 7 Home Premium
2GB RAM

The problem with Atom processors is that even when Intel provides the TjMax numbers, which is 90c, the sensors are still fairly off.
Variations in TjMax and in the sensor calibration can cause such problems.
In your case it may be wise to apply a 15c offset (Options menu) to get a more down to earth readings.

Thanks, thats what i've already done to get to some roughly correct temperatures. Is it possible to fix this with an update of CoreTemp?

Unfortunately what's right for your Atom may be incorrect for the next, so there isn't really any reason to change things now as it will create all the same confusion for other users of the program.

I get temperatures of 5 to 6 degrees on a EeeBox B202. So it is a bit more off than 15 degrees.
