Core Temp 0.99.8 incorrect temp with intel i3

Post by chris13 »

Hello,

I've a new computer : Motherboard Asus P7H55-M PRO & CPU Intel i3 550.
I've installed the last version of CoreTemp > 0.99. 8 < and it displays a wrong temperature.

Image

In the BIOS, the CPU temperature is about 37°C

What do you think about that ?

In most cases your processor will run at full speed, and maybe even with some load when you are in the BIOS.
Temperature difference is there because in Windows your CPU is idling and is a much lower C state.
The BIOS may also use a different sensor for temperature readings.

OK i understand but 21°C and 28°C for a processor in a basic computer .... it's impossible.
This temperature is wrong. Even if the processor is idling

What is your room's ambient temperature?
It's quite possible that at low temperatures the readings will be off, but there is no real way to tell without actual per-case testing.
Core Temp reports temperature which it reads from the processor directly, thus if the sensors are wrong, you will see incorrect data on your screen, there's no way around that.

The ambient temperature is quite hot. It's winter and there is heating in the room.
The Core #1 displays 18°C !! I don't understand ! It's impossible !

One interesting thing is that I have tested the software everest and it diplays almost the same temperature.

Maybe a problem with the processor ??

The problem is most likely with the thermal sensors in the CPU, indeed. Try to run a stress tool such as Prime95 and see how high you can get the temperatures.
I've been hearing that the quality of the thermal sensors in the 32nm CPUs questionable, and maybe they were right.
