Box Desktop Sync App kills CoreTemp

Postby Glyn » Thu Aug 02, 2012 2:12 pm

Hi,

Just so you know, installing the Box Desktop Sync application (http://www.box.com) on Windows 7 (64bit) stops CoreTemp from working; you get an AppCrash at startup.

I'm not asking for a fix, just letting you know it might be worth investigating. In the meantime I've uninstalled the Box software and CoreTemp is working ok again.

Glyn.

I have tracked down the problem, and have contacted Box to see if we can resolve this issue together.
It should not come down to a choice for our users in regards of which application to keep and use and which to remove.

By the way as a temporary workaround, I've found that a 32bit version of Core Temp on a 64bit OS should still work even with Box Sync installed.

Good! Core Temp 1.0 RC3 32bit version on Win7 64bit works fine with Box Sync!

Box has been able to reproduce this problem and they are now looking into it. Hopefully with the next Box update there should not be any more incompatibility problems.

Alright, another update.
I've received an email from another user which mentions that JustCloud caused the same crash with Core Temp.
I dug a little more into the problem and was able to work around it altogether by using a different way of making the problematic code work.
So the next release should be error free in this regard, even with the current version of Box Sync. It should be available pretty soon, hopefully sometime in the upcoming week.

RC4 is now available, Core Temp should not crash with either Box Sync or JustCloud apps anymore.

RC4 64bit works perfectly with Box Sync 3.3.33.0.
Thank you for updating!!
