AMD 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition Troubles

Post by abbyssion »

Hey, I'm trying to OC this CPU and despite every review I read on the net, I can only get it to 3.1Ghz, as opposed to the 3.2 or 3.3Ghz everyone else seems to get.

If that wasn't bad enough, I can't even do it at the same voltage, I seem to need to go to 1.425V to stabilize (15.5 x 200 = 3100) when everyone else can use 1.4V (16 x 200 = 3200).

Is this just a random weird CPU of the batch? Or is it more likely something else, like my mobo?

System is:
- Asus M2A-VM mobo
- 2Gb OCZ Plat Rev. 2 DDR2-800
- 5000+ BE CPU
- Scythe Ninja Cooler
- WD 320Gb Sata Hard Drive
- EVGA 8600 GTS SC
- Antec III case (incl. 500W PS)

Thanks!

That's a pretty nice clock for that CPU either way.
That mobo isn't really meant for overclocking, and it's voltage regulators are rather simple from the reviews I read about it. (I have it in my HPTC, love it).
Also, no CPU is created equal, you need to always remember that.
Antec III? I'm guessing it's Antec Sonata III? It has Earthwatts 500W PSU. It's a very good PSU and has plenty of power, there fore it's not the weak link.

I would say it's most likely the CPU or the motherboard itself, probably.
