What am I actually looking at?

Post by wchp »

E4300 on GA-965P-DS3 (F10 bios) Running Vista 32
IT8718 monitoring chipset
FSB is reporting incorrectly... I have it set to 9x333
Right Now on Core0 Temps reported per app at 18% utilization are
SpeedFan4.32 - 32C, Core Temp 0.95 - 48C, TAT - 59C
Fire up TAT to 100% and then TAT and Core Temp match and SpeedFan reports 15C lower. e.g. 60C, 75C, 75C respectively.
What do I believe or rather what am I seeing?

Had my window wide open, managed to drop my temps to this.. normally its 18*C for Core 0 and 17*C for Core 1 on idle, highest ive had it go was 39*C core 0 / 35*C core 1... is that normal?

Machine is a Dell XPS 710..

I don't know which to believe. CoreTemp .94 and .95 are on there for the difference, though I think .95 is correct. If it is, my processor is running a bit hot methinks.

Those temps are awfully high for a stock system. What HS/Fan are you using and how hot do they get when you're under load (like prime95 or 2x orthos)? Have a look at the thermal management section of this wiki article if you want more.

@bichi - wow dude, 75 °C. You do know that TS for your chip is only 65 °C right? Here

You might wanna lap that chip and the base of your heatsink as well.

graysky - Which HS are you using?

I have SpeedFan set up with a temperature offset = 15 (Configure > Advanced tab > select INTEL core > enter temp offset)which gives me the same temp read out as CoreTemp and very close to TAT.

Mobo: EVGA 680i A1
CPU: Q6600 (stock)
RAM: 2GB OCZ PC28500 (@1066)

The coretemp (0.95.4) temps are correct. Notice it shows a tjunction of 100 which I believe it correct for your chip. Both 0.94 and speedfan incorrectly use the value of 85. Notice the temps are off by 15 °C (100-85 = 15).

Speedfan also gets the tjunction wrong for C2Q chips too.

For a 4400 they would be right near the redline. Have a look at the Intel Processor Finder which shows 62 °C max.

By the way I have a custom water cooled system
