Phenom quad - What exactly is my core temp?

Hi,

I am a little confused about my CPUs actual temperature. I have a Phenom 9950 and i have tried speedfan and coretemp, here is what i see:

Coretemp shows:
Core: 32c

Speedfan shows:
CPU: 40c
Core 32c

So i am assuming my CPU is 32c but what exactly is the "other" cpu temperature showing in speedfan? I have checked every sensor on my board & associated each temperature with its componant (HDD, GPU, Chipset, Ambient). The sensor showing 40c labeled as CPU by speedfan is unique so its not a crossed sensor of any kinda and it does increase with CPU load.

So im a little confused, which is the temp i should be watching?

A Phenom reports a temperature that is relative to a certain predefined value, it doesn't report the actual processor temperature!
There is an offset that needs to be applied, but it's probably different for every chip.

CPU sensor in Speedfan is the motherboard based CPU temp sensor.
