0.99.4+ - system tray icons - can't get rid of CoreTemp icon

Post by CoreTemp-User174 »

With 0.96.1, I could display one or 2 icons in the system tray with the temps, and not have the CoreTemp icon in the tray.

With 0.99.4 and above (haven't tested anything lower since 0.96.1), I can still display 1 or 2 temp icons (though even with 0.99.5b14 the text is still offset), but I also get the CoreTemp icon, and no settings I have tried will get rid of it.

Am I missing something, or am I forced into having another useless tray icon (useless because I only want the temp display icons)?

Strange.

Could you post a screenshot (full screen) of the new beta (from here: http://www.alcpu.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=571) with "system information" (press F3) window open?
Make sure that version 0.99.5.20 is what you download.

With the F3 window open, I am unable to get the focus on the main CT window, so F9 doesn't get a screen capture.

Attached is an F9 without the F3 screen:

Image

This is with my normal 10 or so FireFox3 windows open, with a total of about 80 tabs, and Thunderbird with a couple of windows. As you can see, load is low, and temps seem quite high. The system is a MicroFly SFF case with a Golden Orb CPU cooler, so maybe temps aren't that high, I don't know, but the temp probe that is inserted under the end of the GO cooler is showing about 32C.

Here is the F9 screen, captured with Paintshop Pro XI:

Image

The CPU usage is high on CPU2 due to Paintshop.

After minimizing CT, with this build, the temp display in the tray icon is closer to centered:

Image

But still a little off to the left. As you can see, I have the highest core temp displayed, and the CT icon is still showing in the tray. With 0.96.1, I was able to only display the temp icon(s).

I can't seem to be able to reproduce the problem that you're having.
Try to delete the Core Temp.ini file and try again.
What settings are you using for the system tray?

Renamed CoreTemp.ini, shut down and started up CT, it created a new one, and both cores were showing, and the CT window was open. Minimizing it results in both core temp icons and the CT icon.

Made only one change, setting it to start minimized. Shut it down and restarted it, and still both core temp icons and the CT icon in the tray.

Here is the ini after just changing it to start minimized, no other settings changed, no manual mucking with it:

After a reboot, the problem went away, after fiddling a bit - I use ToggleMinimize to minimize programs to the tray, and I think they were interfering with each other. I closed TM, closed CT and restarted it, problem went away. Restarted TM, and they're still getting along now.

Ideas on the high temps I see at idle? Granted, it's an SFF style case, but with a 120mm fan right above the CPU cooler, and an 80mm fan in the front, along with the 140mm fan on the Golden Orb 2, and the temp probe stuck between the GO2 edge and CPU showing about 22-25degC lower, I'm thinking I might need to play with the temp offset on this E4400 a little bit.
