QX9650 Temp Reading Bugs Stilll ??

Post by CoreTemp-User038 »

i emailed this to you a while ago with no reply ??
The reason I'm contacting you is due to a small problem with
Core Temp 99.3 compatibility with my main PC

My PC Desktop:-

OS Vista 64 home premium

Cpu Intel QX9650 extreme (3.5G)

Ram 8Gig DDR2 OCZ REAPER 1066MHZ

M/board Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 rev 1.1

Bios award software ver:- F9a

liquid cooled

Ok now to the problem:-

***This is an old screen dump from CT 99 but pproblem is still the same!!
Image

The first 2 core temps are only ever at 25c and will only change if it moves by more than 10c increments

for example from 25c to 35c to 45c ( core#0 #1 ) even though the cpu activity is changing

but the other temps (core#2 #3) will go up and down in 1deg increments and start at the lower temp of 12c (true temp)
and respond to cpu activity very fast

yes i am aware that Tj max is lower in the new ver: of CT but this is not the issue

I'm sorry that I never replied to your email, I must have missed it.

Regarding your problem. This looks like a problematic DTS in one of the two dice on the processor (one quad core is composed of two dual core dice on the PCB).
There's a phenomena called "Sticky sensors", Intel describes this problem as the sensors are "bottoming out".
Meaning that at lower temperatures the sensors can get "stuck" and not perform very well. But at temperatures closer to 60-70C they should start working properly and provide proper heat detection and raise the PROCHOT bit which signals the system about an overheating processor.

1st I must apologize as I didn't mean to come across to be rude I was just getting frustrated trying to find a solution

after reading your reply I made further tests
(when I could find a tester that would work with vista 64bit)
and found out that you are correct they do appear to be sticky in the first DIE
and you were also correct this is a very common problem with quad cores
and from what I've also found out this is very common in the QX9xxx to the point that I lot of people are reporting that its happening to both DIE'S

last but not least
AWSOME PROGRAM KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK
GRAPH PLUG IN IS GREAT TOO
