Unreliable Start-Up

A problem has been plaguing Core Temp since I started using it several versions ago - It won't reliably autostart either by selecting "Start when Windows starts" OR by dropping a shortcut to the executable into the Startup folder.

To get it to run I must manually start it. Even then it won't show in the taskbar until I try to start a second instance of it and get the error message that it's already running. Then, and only then will the temps be displayed in the taskbar.

Specifics:
Core Temp ver. 0.99
Win Xp SP2
Asus P5B MB
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (Kentsfield)

I leave it running 24/7 since I do folding, so it isn't that big a deal. I suppose it would be if I powered up and down every day.

Let me just say that I love Core Temp, and I wouldn't feel safe folding without it running. Other temp monitor apps, like Motherboard Monitor, just don't cut it because they are wildly inaccurate, and take up screen real estate. Core Temp is perfect because it sits at the bottom in the taskbar and just reports temps. Bravo on a fine piece of work, and keep it up!!

Not quite sure why it wouldn't auto start. I've tested it myself on several of my systems and it worked fine on all of them.

Hello and thank you for the product,

I am running version 0.99 in WIN XP SP2 and seem to be unable to start Core Temp with a regular user account (i.e. non-administrator). I am getting the "Driver has failed to load" error.

Please advise if there is any solution.

There is none. You must be logged in as admin or run it as admin manually (if there's such an option).

I wonder if this issue is due to my mistake. I didn't realize there was a configuration checkbox that would allow coretemp 0.99 to launch when Vista boots. So I added a shortcut to it from my startup folder. Now coretemp always is shown as a program Vista has blocked from starting, even though I have corrected my mistake, removed it from startup, and checked the checkbox.

Auto-startup will only work if UAC is disabled.
