Strange Intermediate Loading

Post by lynxxs »

When I run Core Temp, some times is loads some times it does not.
I click on the program, I see windows thinking, then nothing. It does not start. When it does not start the program basically crashes, I am still able to use windows but eventually (1~2 min) other programs start to crash and stop responding. I can still navigate windows, but if i choose to shutdown or reset my computer. Windows goes through the motions, acts as if it was shutting down and then it just seems to hang at the "windows is shutting down" screen. I then get tired of waiting and do a hard power off. It seems to be conflicting with some other service/app, because if I load up task manager after one of the "not loading phase" and click on the service tab. It pretty much locks up.

And the killer, when it does load it seems to be working fine.
Oh, and I get the intermediate problem even when not overclocking.

Spec:
CoreTemp 0.96
Vista 32
Intel Q6700
Abit IP35 Pro
Crucial Ballistix 2GB

That is a strange issue I've never heard about before.
Have you tried one of the earlier versions and did it work ok?
Also when you try to run Task Manager, Task Manager locks up or the computer?

I was using Version 0.95.4 Before i noticed 0.96 was out, and that one did the same thing.

I cant even remember now. I think if the programs does not load, task manager will not load. But I was doing some test and If task manager was already open and I click on the services, task manager pretty much stops responding.

I don't really know what to say, unless there may be some other conflicting software running.
Or it could be some kind of problem with Windows. I've heard about problems with Core Temp, but never had such a problem before.
I'll try to think and see if there's anything I can do, but I'm not even sure where to begin.

I'm having the same problem on XP32 home.

using:
Core Temp 0.96.1
E6850 3.0
P5N32-E SLI
Using 2 gig G.skill HZ mem

I'm trying to find the cause. It was working fine on a clean windows install and didn't start until a windows update. I don't think its just a core temp issue because I can get the same problem to happen with EVEREST or any other program that goes to the system tray and reads settings. AIM and AVG for example work fine; however the everest hangs are always recoverable and only last 1 min tops. I'll try to post more if I can find more symptoms. Hope I can help a bit with this, doesn't seem like too many people are having this issue.

Edit: Everest issues also never cause the system hang when shutting down.
Edit 2: Also when the program is run once successfully it seems like the problem never occurs until the next reboot.
Edit 3: After disabling automatic updates in windows I haven't been able to reproduce the problem. Possible workaround?
Edit 4: nevermind got it to happen again.
Edit 5: Ok the problem never happens when my memory is set at 2T. When the memory is set at 1T it seems to happen when randomly loading. Note that the system is 30+ hours orthos stable at stock settings when my memory is set at 1T
