Wide Range between two cores

Post by akahuddy »

Hey guys, I just threw an Opty 170 into my build to replace an X2 4200+ that's going into a build for my mom. Upon seating my cooler and returning into Windows, everything works just hunky dory. I checked CoreTemp to see what type of temps it was running at only to find this:
Image

ASUS utility reads @ 38C which is usually about 2C below CoreTemp when everything is functioning properly. I ran a dual instance of P95 and the chip was completely stable and the temperatures only rise about 2-3C so something is definately fishy.

Has anyone ever had something like this happen before? Other than resetting my cooler and seeing if that helps, does anyone have suggestions or comments?

such drastic difference in temps could only be caused by bad DTS callibration.
I would try to reseat the heatsink, but if it doesn't help and you see the same delta between the temps, that's obviously a badly callibrated DTS.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll reset my cooler today and if that doesn't work, RMA the processor.

After remounting, the results are the same. Bad DTS=RMA :[

Wao  i don't think a bad dts report requires an RMA its not like the processor is damaged, and can't function properly. Though if you want to spend the money on shipping and not having a cpu for a 2 weeks go a head.

While the processor seems to be running at safe temps, if I ever decide that I want to push it towards 2.8-2.9 I would like to be able to keep a careful eye on the temperature.
