changed cpu voltage s/GCPUID - system froze, boot trouble

Post by crickw »

I installed GCPUID on my Dell Inspiron 8600 because I was running into CPU usage trouble. It has an Intel Pentium M 725 Dothan. While clicking around GCPUID, I inadvertently lowered the voltage.

The system froze. I had to power down. Then the system would boot to windows login, take the login credentials, and get stuck on a black screen.

I was able to boot in Safe Mode, and to boot using "last known good".

In your softpedia listing for GCPUID, I now see that GCPUID "can change the CPU multiplier and voltage on Athlon 4/Mobile AthlonXP, Athlon64 and Athlon 64-FX processors." Clearly I don't have one of these processors. Can you tell me what happened when GCPUID attempted to lower the voltage on my Pentium M 725? Is it reversible?

Help!!
:(

Here is the text file from GCPUID:
